Road blocks are violating people's right to freedom of movement and destroying their livelihoods.

Why has Nicaragua, a country with a stable economy and commitment to health, education, social and programmes, erupted into such deeply polarised conflict over the past month?

The Western media including the BBC and The Guardian blame the government  almost entirely for the conflict.

However, John Perry who volunteers with a rural development NGO in Masaya argues that the situation is much more complex and that protesters also bear  responsibility for such actions as the destruction of public buildings and businesses, road blocks manned by people with lethal weapos; and the burning down of homes of Sandinista sympathisers.
