Nicaragua praised by ILO for advances against child labour

The International LaboUr Organization (ILO) has recognised the Sandinista government’s campaign to eliminate child labour. According to the Federation of Organizations of Local Development (FODEL) there are over 200,000 child labourers in Nicaragua. Alba Luz Torres, Minister of Labour (MITRAB) explained that the Ministry is conducting inspections and has also signed 2,065 agreements with coffee farmers not to employ children in exchange for multi-agency support in education, security, health, and sports and recreation.
